The tattoo ink is located in the dermis, the deepest layer of the skin. Over time, the ink fades and gives the tattoo a washed out or blotchy appearance.
Once light is absorbed, it breaks the pigment into smaller particles that are then absorbed by the body to be removed. This process takes several weeks. Usually, several sessions are required to achieve ink removal.
We recommend spaced sessions at 4 to 8 week intervals to allow the body to eliminate the maximum amount of pigment from the tattoo after each session.
Usually, each session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes. With each session you will notice that the tattoo lightens as your body eliminates pigment. Most patients see an improvement in tattoos and the results can be quite drastic.
